ABOUT

TWIN NOIR - "Chapter 3"

Driving, dark and uncompromisingly danceable – TWIN NOIR transform analog rawness into urban ecstasy.

Between club haze, tape machines, and pulsating basslines, the Berlin-based project creates a sound that does not merely reference Post-Punk, Wave, and EBM, but reshapes them entirely.

Founded in Berlin in 2021, TWIN NOIR appear outwardly as a duo, yet at their core operate as a passionately driven trio. Cody Barcelona (vocals, electronics, guitar) and Ian Volt (vocals, bass) form the creative heart of the band and stand at the center of their intense live performances. The project is completed by Lina Avair, who oversees operations while contributing her own creative impulses. Everything is handled in-house — from music and visuals to organization and releases via their own label, Twin Noir Records. Together, they conceive TWIN NOIR as a holistic Gesamtkunstwerk: musical, visual, and conceptual.

The sound oscillates between electronic sequences, expansive atmospheres, and striking melodic moments. Minimalist German lyrics meet technoid beats, driving basslines, and dense textures shaped by synthesizers and guitar. An analog tape machine, samplers, guitars, and a theremin define their identity. Influences range from Kraftwerk and DAF to EBM and techno, as well as punk and alternative movements from the 70s through the 90s.

Live, TWIN NOIR unfold their full intensity: high-energy performances, physical presence, and an aesthetic inspired by Berlin club culture, punk, and vaudeville. Their shows function as a manifesto for freedom, creativity, and artistic self-determination — raw, direct, and without a safety net.

The band’s story began with street performances and early club shows in Berlin. When another lockdown halted all plans at the end of 2021, Cody and Ian made a radical decision: they moved to Mexico for six months. There, they continued performing, wrote new material, and recorded a large part of their debut album in Mexico City, released in early 2023. Back in Europe, the recordings were completed at Portugal Recording Studio near Lisbon — a formative phase that continues to shape the artistic core of the project.

An intense touring history followed: TWIN NOIR have performed in over 21 countries across Europe, the UK, the Balkans, and Mexico, quickly establishing themselves as a powerful live act. In 2024, they returned to Portugal to record their second album, 2 Punks and a Tape Machine – Chapter II, released in September 2024. The record refined their sound further — more direct, darker, and even more focused on the dancefloor.

Key milestones include the presentation of three songs by Iggy Pop on his BBC Radio 6 show, recognition as one of the “50 Most Promising European Artists” by the Europelive initiative, and performances at festivals such as Wave-Gotik-Treffen in Leipzig and Extramuralhas Festival in Portugal. They have also toured as support for DAF, She Past Away, and Men Without Hats. In summer 2025, TWIN NOIR opened the main stage of the sold-out Summerside Festival in Switzerland alongside acts such as Royal Republic and Billy Idol.

With their third album, set for release on February 27, 2026, and a new partnership with Odyssey Music Network, the band opens the next chapter.

The new release continues their analog aesthetic while expanding into new creative territories between club precision and experimental depth. It reflects their ongoing journey: constant movement, transformation — and the search for the moment when control turns into ecstasy.

TWIN NOIR are not an echo of the past, but an expression of the present — made for dark clubs, open spaces, and moments when everything begins to flow.
